Welcome to My Oma Always
Canning Co.
My name is Sonya Brobbel and together with my husband, Klaas, we run this small rural Albertan Company. He does the brainstorming, and I do the implementing.
A small AHS inspected kitchen is in the basement of our home, and a tiny 104 square foot honor system store sits on our front lawn. Each week, our staff and I cook, bake, and create delicious food that we pop into the store. Our customers come from all over Alberta to get their hands on homemade meals, soup, canning, and baking.
We are called a canning company because initially we hand canned all of our jellies and jams. Eventually, the demand for our products meant that we outgrew this system and now we co-pack our three main jellies as well as produce our Instant Chai Tea Latte Mix with Prairie Hill Farms in Picture Butte, AB. It is very exciting for us to be able to say that at this point we have our products on the shelves of over 100 stores, both in Alberta, and the Lower Mainland in British Columbia!
As a child who lacked positive influence from my Opa’s and 0ma’s, I was envious of the relationships my friends had with their grandparents and extended family. I saw traditions happening in homes where Olliebollen were made every New Year's Day and where certain foods were cooked and eaten as parts of tradition. Although I didn’t realize it at the time, this had a lasting impact on me.
Our slogan is Food. Memories. They go together.
The longer we run this business, the more I realize it to be true. Everybody has a person in their lives, who they remember as “always making” a certain food. Food that brings nostalgia for sweet times gone by and we want to be a part of that in your life. The Red Pepper Jelly that you spread over a brick of cream cheese and arrange crackers around every holiday. The steaming mugs of Instant Chai Tea Latte you and your daughters cradle in your hands while you sit cross legged on the couch, deep in conversation. The Apricot Jalapeno jelly that you remember your father spreading on the salmon and the smell it made when he opened the lid of the BBQ. The Curry Mango Jelly that you and your siblings dipped your french fries in as you ate them, Dutch style with mayonnaise.
Our wish? Our goal? That someday down the road, you will start out a sentence that is some variation of “My Oma Always”…. with a smile in your voice and a tender memory in your heart.

Bernice Wubs
BC Sales Representative
It is a privilege to work alongside Sonya at My Oma Always, and to actively participate in growing the company here in British Columbia. My previous job also involved sales, but this new-to-me industry has brought me new knowledge and growth. It is wonderful to get to know my customers and exciting to share their love for the My Oma Always products!

Gerri Favreau
Office Manager
I started off as the bookkeeper for My Oma Always but about a year ago my role expanded to include all things administrative. It has been fun learning the ropes within this industry and having the opportunity to contribute to the growth of Sonya's venture. I am super blessed to work alongside such a dynamic entrepreneur and a great friend!
